The 2nd Region Coach of the Year is on the move, but plans to stick closer to home.

Josh Young has resigned as baseball head coach at Caldwell County after two seasons at his alma mater.

Young said he will be an assistant coach for baseball and football at Graves County High School in the upcoming school year.

From a travel standpoint, the change makes a lot of sense for Young. Josh and his wife, Erica, live in Mayfield. They are expecting a baby boy in December.

In two seasons as head coach at Caldwell, Young compiled a record of 46 wins and 19 losses.

He guided the Tigers to a 27-7 record this spring. The Tigers won the 7th District championship before falling to eventual champion Hopkinsville in the first round of the regional tournament.

The 27 wins were the second-most wins in school history — trailing only the 2016 team.

Young was a senior at Caldwell on that 2016 squad which went 31-6 while winning the 2nd Region championship before falling to Scott County 1-0 in eight innings at the state tournament.

The 2024 Tigers also had an 11-game winning streak late in the season.

That tied for the third-longest string in school history. The 2016 team has the record with 13 straight victories.

Young was voted 2nd Region Coach of the Year by the Coaches Association.

  1. I am so sorry to hear you.You were great with the boys this year and I really enjoyed watching them play.Thank you for all you have done and best of luck in the future.Congratulations on the baby.

  2. Coaching at the high school level can be so tricky because it doesn’t pay as much as at the college level. Coaches really have to balance their love of the game and the kids in the community with their own personal and family needs.

Best of luck in the new position, Coach Young.
