Javeon Campbell is the top-rated recruit in Kentucky
Kentucky got a huge verbal commitment from four-star Ohio edge rusher Cedric Works Thursday and could be set to get another huge defensive commitment next week from Western Hills star Javelin Campbell. The 6-5, 230-pound Works is a consensus top 200 prospect nationally and a top 10 player in talent-rich Ohio. He is a top 100 prospect on 247Sports.
He visited Florida, Penn State, and Cincinnati during the summer and had numerous other offers.
Last season Works had 82 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 6.5 quarterback sacks for Northmont High School. He also had two interceptions and numerous pass deflections since he has the athleticism to drop into pass coverage.
Works also averaged 3.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 14 games for the basketball team.
Campbell has played only one year of high school football but is the top-rated player in the state. Some recruiting analysts have had him leaning to Alabama after a recent visit but he was also on the Kentucky campus again earlier this month.
Javeon will be committing on July 2nd at 11:30. He wanted to commit before July 10 because his brother will be leaving,” Western Hills coach Simon Vanderpool said. “Due to this being during dead period we are not able to host this at the school.”
His commitment ceremony will be at 88 C Michael Davenport Blvd, Frankfort, 40601, and Vanderpool says there are plans for it to be live-streamed. He will also be given his jersey for being named to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the commitment ceremony.
Kentucky did lose tight end target Brody Lennon of Cleveland to Ohio State Thursday. He was a three-star prospect who visited UK on June 14 and got an Ohio State offer just before his visit to UK. He is a top 500 prospect nationally.

There is never a dull moment. We have the best freshman class this year on the defensive side I’ve seen here at Kentucky. It looks like 2025 is going to be great too. When these 2 classes get to be sophomores and juniors we will have a incredible defense. We have to do something big this year because I think next year will be a down year and then we will have a good team the next 2 years after that. You gotta put all your chips in this year. We have a team that can beat any team in college football this year. We have talent and experience and there is no reason why we can’t win at least 9 games. But 2025 is probably going to be a 6 or 7 win season unless we do great in the transfer portal. We are losing a ton of guys on the offense and defense.
