John Kiebler’s double with two outs in the top of the ninth drove in Braden Pingle with the go-ahead run as the Hoptown Hoppers picked up a 2-1 road win at Henderson Wednesday night. Pingle had reached base earlier in the inning on a one-out walk.
The win put the Hoppers 4 ½ games behind first place Paducah with less than two weeks left in the regular season.
The Hoppers got on the board in the top of the first. Brayden Pingle led off the game with a double, advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a wild pitch to give Hoptown a 1-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Peyton Armour gave the Hoppers one of the their best pitching starts of the season. Armour went seven innings, giving up no runs on just three hits, while striking out nine, as he silenced the Flash bats for most of the night.
Henderson finally got on the board in the bottom of the 8th inning, stringing together a walk, a Hopper error, and an RBI single with two outs to even the score at 1-1.
John Kieber finished the game 2-4 with an RBI. Max Martin was 2-3 for the night. Brayden Pingle was 1-4 and scored both Hopper runs.
Sam Patrick got the win in relief for Hoptown. He pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up just one hit.
