The day was oh so close to turning out differently Saturday for the Fort Campbell Falcons at the Best of the West 7-on-7 passing tournament at the Stadium of Champions. The Falcons ended up losing a pair of games to finish up their appearance in the tournament, but it will be the first game of the day that sticks with the Falcons for a while.
Matched up against the Christian County Colonels, who they had forfeited to on Friday, the Falcons found themselves in a battle from the very beginning. A touchdown pass inside the final minute put the Falcons ahead and it looked like they would advance in the winner’s bracket.
However, after a couple of plays, Christian County got one final chance with 3 seconds left and the Colonels caught a deflected pass in the end zone to take the 25-24 win.
The loss dropped the Falcons into the consolation bracket, where they faced off against former champion Pearl-Cohn. The Falcon defense had trouble slowing down the Pearl offense and ended up seeing their day end with a 31-2 loss to the Firebirds.
