Connections are Even Bigger in Recruiting Now

Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan knows there is a salary scale coming for college athletes paid by the universities along with the NIL money some athletes are already receiving.

“Everybody has their opinions on it,” said Hamdan. “One thing with me being in college and the NFL, there will be no surprises for players when they go to the NFL now. If I am (freshman quarterback) Cutter Boley I am taking a class on how to save money and handle finances.”

Hamdan also sees one other positive to the new financial setup.

“Before so much of recruiting was (the school) logos,” Hamdan said. “Now it is more of a business. If a player has a better (financial) opportunity somewhere else they can easily take that opportunity.

“Now it comes down to coaches being honest and managing who deserves what. Staffs that do a good job will get a leg up.”

Hamdan said while NIL presents challenges to building a roster, it will go back to the “connection piece” between coaches and players.

“It goes back to providing an experience where players are getting taken care of well enough and it means more to graduate from Kentucky and you pour heart and soul into the program.”

  1. I have no problem with anyone making money. It’s weird and im not used to it, but it is what it is. I think honestly it makes the playing field more level.

  2. Lots of reasons I disagree – start with Phil Knight and the Ducks, Walton and Tyson family and the Hogs……………………………
