2014 Kentucky Mr. Football Elijah Sindelar

A Kentucky Mr. Football and a national champion are included in the newest class of the Caldwell County Football Hall of Fame.

The seven newest members will be honored at Caldwell’s home football game against Murray on Friday, Oct. 18. (Note: This is a change from the originally announced date of Sept. 20 against McCracken County.)

The list features Elijah Sindelar, Jaylen Boyd, Justin Grooms, Evans Wells, Kyler Kendall, Drake VanHooser and Bob Hayes.

Sindelar was named the state’s Mr. Football in 2014 after setting the state record for career touchdown passes and finishing second on the all-time passing yardage list. He holds virtually every Caldwell passing record. Sindelar later played quarterback at Purdue University.

Boyd, who played in the same backfield as Sindelar at Caldwell, is the only Tiger to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season, running for 2,041 yards in Caldwell’s state runner-up season of 2012. He is second on Caldwell’s career rushing list. Boyd later won an NAIA national championship as the starting running back at Lindsey Wilson College.

Grooms and Wells were both seniors on Caldwell’s 1998 state championship team. That squad went 14-1 and beat Danville 38-28 in the state finals in Louisville. Wells had an interception to nail down the state championship victory. Grooms was part of Caldwell’s stellar linebacker corps.

Kendall was the center on Caldwell’s 2012 state runner-up squad and helped anchor the offensive line for some of the Tigers’ highest-scoring teams in school history. Caldwell averaged 50.8 points a game his senior season of 2014 and 48.9 points in 2013. Kendall went on to play football at Georgetown College.

VanHooser, a 2015 Caldwell grad, was a standout defensive end for the Tigers. He recorded 75 tackles as a senior, including 19 for a loss. VanHooser later played college football at Murray State University.

Hayes is being inducted as a contributor to the Tiger football program. A longtime member of the chain crew for Caldwell home football games, Hayes moved to the broadcast booth and spent most of the last decade calling games on WPKY Radio.
