Maroons Take 3rd at Storm Invitational (w/PHOTOS)

Madisonville-North Hopkins totaled a team score of 309 to take third Wednesday in the Hopkins County Central Storm Invitational Golf Tournament at Madisonville Country Club.

McCracken County took top team honors with a strong 296. Marshall County was runner-up at 307.

Madisonville and Greenwood each finished at 309 with their top four scores. However, the Maroons’ fifth-best score was an 85 while the Gators’ was 88, giving Madisonville the tiebreaker.

Trayson Raymer led the Maroons with a 1-over-par 72, including a 2-under 34 on the back nine holes. Raymer’s total was his best ever and good enough for fifth individually.

Jake Witherspoon shot a 76 for Madisonville while Brennan Cole was at 79, Tyler Bryan 82 and Max Clayton 85 to round out the Maroons’ top five scorers.

McCracken County’s Jack Farmery claimed medalist honors in a playoff after he and Hancock County’s Jacob Schultz each finished 18 holes at 2-under 69. McCracken’s Landon Hunt was third with a 70.

The Maroons will play again on Thursday when they take part in the Trigg County Invitational at Boots Randolph Golf Course.
