The Wayback, a tribute portfolio hotel in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., has been named one of the top 100 “extraordinary destinations to visit and stay” by Time on its list of the World’s Greatest Places.

To compile this list, TIME solicited nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as via an application process to pick out new and exciting experiences.

I visited The Wayback a few months ago just after it opened and loved it. The boutique hotel has a great location on the main highway and is a retro location geared for adults.

Developed by Aatmos, The Wayback says it offers a unique “where retro meets modern” aesthetic, blending nostalgic charm with contemporary amenities.

It is just a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park — one of my all-time favorite places.

This is what Time said about The Wayback:

“The Wayback, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, opened last November, it stood out as a modern, design-forward property bringing a new sense of luxury to the area. Inspired by retro roadside motels and mid-century modern architecture, the Wayback envelops guests
in bright colors and funky artwork that’s sleek and stylish. (The 134 rooms offer a more peaceful ambiance via muted color palettes and natural wood furniture with rounded corners.)

“Designed for socializing, the lobby, swimming pool, and restaurant boast large seating areas and furnishings with playful prints. Guests also gather at Paloma, the hotel’s restaurant and bar serving comfort food with a Mexican accent. The trendy Swim Club is a stand-out, an upscale place for guests to soak in the mountain sun while grooving to a signature playlist and sipping cocktails from a vintage Airstream bar. At night, the Swim Club transforms into an adults-only playground with seasonal programming and special events.”
