Lady Colonels Win Varsity Flight 8 Bracket at Bluegrass Games

The Christian County Lady Colonels volleyball team got a chance to measure its early season progress over the weekend, taking part in the annual Bluegrass State Games volleyball competition in Lexington. The event saw the Lady Colonels make some positive progress over the three days of the event.

The first day of pool play on Friday saw the Lady Colonels grouped with Central Hardin and Paintsville.

Christian County opened play against Paintsville and dropped a tough match in straight sets. Paintsville took the match 21-16 and 21-15.

The Lady Colonels were back on the court later Friday taking on Central Hardin. This one belonged to the defending 5th Region champs from the very beginning as the Lady Bruins took a 21-2, 21-7 win.

As Saturday arrived, the second day of pool play found the Lady Colonels grouped up with Bullitt Central, Calloway County, and Seneca.

Christian County went toe-to-toe with Bullitt Central in the opener Saturday but fell in straight sets 21-17 and 21-16.

The second match of the day found the Lady Colonels squaring off against 1st Region opponent Calloway County. The Lady Colonels got their first win of the weekend getting past the Lady Lakers 22-20 and 21-18.

Saturday finished up with Christian County going up against Seneca. The Lady Colonels took the opening set 21-19 with Seneca coming back to win the next two sets 21-18 and 15-8 to take the match.

With the results from the first two days, the Lady Colonels were in the Varsity Flight 8 bracket for Sunday. Christian County picked up a forfeit against University Heights in the opening match of bracket play to advance to the bracket semifinals.

From there, the Lady Colonels picked up a win over Christian Fellowship in the bracket semifinals and a win over Lloyd Memorial in the title match.
