Macy Cotton just missed out on making the Kentucky 2A state golf tournament and the Hopkins County Central boys’ team finished in a tie for 4th Thursday on a ‘warm’ morning in Murray. The Storm and Lady Storm golfers were among those competing at Miller Memorial Golf Course.

Due to the extreme weather conditions across the region, the tournament was shortened to nine holes and got rolling at 7:45am. That decision turned out to be a good one as conditions were starting to heat up quickly as the players came off the course just ahead of lunch time.

For the Lady Storm, Macy Cotton finished her round with a score of 49. Madolyn Kate Brown ended up with a 65. Cotton’s score put her in 5th place, behind Macy Saylor (37) and Emerson Vaughn (39), of Murray, McCall Moore (41), of Paducah Tilghman, and Emma Dowell (44), of Trigg County.

With Saylor and Vaughn being on the sectional-winning Murray team, Moore and Dowell took the two individual at-large spots from the sectional that advance on to the state tournament.

In boys play, Hopkins County Central finished with a team score of 212, ending up in a two-way tie with Union County. Paducah Tilghman won the sectional title with 150. Murray was second at 182.

Individual scores for the Storm were:

Jaxson Miller – 50
Jagger Byrum – 52
Will Lynch – 54
Kyler Snead – 56
Jett Miller – 64

Paducah Tilghman’s Evan Hack took boys’ medalist honors with a 34. With Hack being on the winning team, the two individual qualifiers were Ian Dahncke (36), of Murray, and Haydon Reynolds (37), of Trigg County.
