Two Trigg County golfers have qualified for the Kentucky 2A Championships following sectional play on a steamy Thursday at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray. Haydon Reynolds advances on the boys’ side while Emma Dowell is headed to girls’ state play.
Play for the event was modified due to the extreme heat conditions across the area. Golfers took to the course at 7:45am with the event cut to nine holes. The guys played on the front nine of the Miller course, while the ladies were on the back nine.
In each division, the winning team advances to state play, while the two individuals with the best scores not on the winning team also qualify to move on.
Reynolds, who was looking for his second straight sectional championship, finished his day with a 9-hole round of 37. That score placed him 3rd overall behind Paducah Tilghman’s Evan Hack (34) and Murray’s Ian Dahncke. Hack’s Paducah Tilghman team won the boys’ team title, giving Reynolds the second slot for individual players.
For the girls, Emma Dowell finished her morning with a round of 44, putting her in fourth place overall.
Murray’s Macy Saylor won medalist honors with a round of 37. Her teammate Emerson Vaughn (39) was two shots back. McCall Moore (41), of Paducah Tilghman, took third place.
With Murray taking the team title, Dowell claimed the second state tournament ticket for individual players.
The Kentucky 2A Championships state golf tournament is set for September 9 at the Owensboro Country Club.
