Katie Roberts started strong, finished strong, and survived a wobble in the middle to win the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club Girls’ Invitational on Tuesday.

The Marshall County senior shot an even-par 71 to defeat Daviess County’s Claire Reynolds and North Hardin’s AnnaMae Atcher by one shot. She was second in last year’s tournament.

Roberts began her day on hole No. 2 and birdied two of the first four holes. She then fell victim to the bogeyman on four of the next five holes to move to 1-over after 11 holes. She bogeyed No. 13 but then settled down to birdie 14 and 16 and finished at even par.

Hopkinsville’s Cate Blane began her day on No. 11 and eagled the par-5 14th hole to move to 2-under through four holes. Despite two birdies in her final nine holes, two bogeys and a double bogey on No. 8 knocked her from contention. She finished tied for fourth place with a 3-over 74.

Marshall County repeated as team champion with a score of 306. Cecelia Ray shot a 76, and Skylar Waller added a 79.

Bowling Green edged Daviess County 321-322 for second place. Mary Douglas Childers and Jenna Harston both shot a 76 to pace the Purples.

In addition to Reynolds’ 72, Alexa Salamah shot a 75 for Daviess County.

Henderson County, led by Meryl Grogan’s 77, finished in fourth place with a 338.
