The ‘Friday Night Lights’ were back on in Mortons Gap Friday night. The Hopkins County Central Storm got the chance to get in some game action against an opponent as they hosted the Murray Tigers for the first of their two preseason scrimmages.
Murray used big plays early and scored on every possession of the varsity portion of the scrimmage on the way to a 35-6 win. The full varsity squads played two quarters on an unusually comfortable August night.
The Storm had early troubles with the deep ball as Murray used a 52-yard pass to set up a two-yard touchdown run on its first possession and then scored on touchdown passes of 48 yards and 26 yards on the ensuing possessions to take a 21-0 lead.

Hopkins Central came up with a big play of its own on the next possession. This time it was Isac Earl connecting with Issac Manning for a 64-yard score to trim the lead to 21-6.
The Storm defense did a better job from that point eliminating the big play but could not quite keep the Tigers out of the end zone as Murray was able to grind out two long drives for a pair of touchdowns.
Central had 67 yards rushing and 79 passing during the varsity part of the scrimmage. Isac Earl was 3-5-1 through the air for 79 yards and a touchdown. Earl also led the Storm with 35 yards rushing. Zayden Parker added 26 yards on the ground.
Murray quarterback Wyatt Robbins was 9 of 13 for 198 yards and 3 TDs. The Tigers also ran the ball for 143 yards, bringing their total offense to 341 yards.
Hopkins County Central will go on the road for the second of its preseason scrimmages next Friday night and take on the Marshall County Marshals in Draffenville.
