
Trigg County’s first preseason scrimmage ended with the Wildcats scoring a late touchdown to beat Muhlenberg County three touchdowns to two on Friday at Perdue Field.
The scrimmage began with 10-play drives by each team and concluded with down-and-distance drives for three quarters.
Muhlenberg County struck first when sophomore Klay Wilken hit Carson Murphy with a 66-yard scoring strike down the right sideline.
Trigg County answered with a pair of touchdowns in the down-and-distance portion of the scrimmage.
Freshman quarterback Timmy Williams hit Amari Alexander with a screen pass that turned into a 17-yard touchdown.
Williams later found Peyton Williams on a 49-yard catch and run for Trigg’s second score.
Muhlenberg answered when Wilken competed a 14-yard scoring pass to knot the scrimmage at two scores apiece.
Trigg County scored its third and final touchdown late in the third quarter then Williams rolled out and found Brody Renfroe for a 20-yard touchdown.
Trigg County ran three more plays than Muhlenberg and outgained the Mustangs 287-266.
Williams was 10-of-13 passing for 184 yards. He added 34 rushing yards on six carries.
Davaree Gude led the Wildcat ground attack with 49 yards on seven carries. Peyton Williams had two catches for 65 yards, and Alexander added three receptions for 39 yards.
For Muhlenberg, Wilken was 4-of-7 passing for 107 yards. Trevor Joiner had 11 carries for 62 yards.
Muhlenberg County, 4-6 a year ago, will host Butler County in a scrimmage next Friday.
