Jaden Woolf scored three minutes into the second half and the Christian County defense made it stand as the Colonels opened the soccer season with a 2-1 win at Franklin-Simpson.
It’s Christian County’s first season-opening victory in eight years.
With the game tied 1-1 at halftime, Woolf took a pass from Alex Hale at the 42:00 mark to push the Colonels into the lead.
The goal was the first of Woolf’s high school career while Hale made a triumphant return to the pitch after missing nearly all of last year with an injury. Hale had five goals and four assists as a sophomore.
Christian Lopez, last year’s leading scorer, got the Colonels on the board with an unassisted goal at the 12:33 mark of the opening half.
Christian County is hoping the win marks a turnaround from last year when the Colonels were 2-6 in one-goal contests.
Junior Mason Malone had seven saves in the back of the Colonel defense.
The Colonel win snapped a three-game losing streak to Franklin-Simpson dating back five years.
Christian County’s defense will get a stout test on Thursday when they welcome Murray to the Stadium of Champions.
