For a while Thursday night, it looked like it might come down to the final moments. The Logan County Cougars broke open a tight contest with five second-half goals as they rolled to a 6-2 win over the Christian County Lady Colonels at the Stadium of Champions.

The Lady Colonels got on the board first in this one when Emerson Boyd found the net in the first few minutes of the match to make it 1-0. The goal was the first in her high school career for the Christian County freshman.

Logan County evened things up later in the half when Kyla Bilyeu took a pass from Lily Humble and sent it into the net to make it 1-1.

Maria Ojeda and Bilyeu scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half for the Lady Cougars to push Logan County out to a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Colonels fought back and cut into the lead with a goal from Carliah Hobson in the 56th minute to make it 3-2. Jayleigh Campbell picked up the assist on the score.

But, Logan County quickly poured cold water on the Lady Colonels’ hopes of a comeback as the Lady Cougars got two goals from Nia Scipio, at the 64:00 and the 71:00, to run the lead out to 5-2. Caroline Boortz added a goal in the final minute to get to the final margin.

Christian County drops to 0-2 with the loss. The Lady Colonels will hit the road Saturday morning to take on Madisonville-North Hopkins.
