After trailing at the break, the Trigg County Wildcats rallied to avoid a loss in their season-opening match. The Wildcats scored twice in a 15 minute span of the second half to forge a 3-3 tie with the Hopkins County Central Storm at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.

For the Storm, it was the second time in as many matches in the 2024 season that they saw a two goal halftime lead slip away in the second forty minutes. On Monday night, the Storm dropped a 5-4 decision to Todd County Central after leading 3-1 at the half.

The Wildcats took the early lead Thursday evening when Corben Woodall took a pass from Alex Hurt and put the ball in the net, giving Trigg County a 1-0 lead just five minutes in.

Riley Dunlap scored his second goal of the season at the 20:00 mark to pull Hopkins Central even at 1-1. Seven minutes later Jude Mitchell scored his second goal of the season to push the Storm in front 2-1.

Late in the half, Cole Hoard beat the Trigg keeper going right to left across the face of the net sending the Storm to the half leading 3-1.

Trigg’s rally began at the 43:50 mark when James Garnett took the ball out of the scrum in front and drilled a shot into the net to cut the lead to 3-2. The Wildcats then pulled even at 58:00 when Slaton Carter scored his first goal of the season, making it 3-3.

Both teams would have their chances over the final 20 minutes but could not find the net as the match ended in the draw.

After being outshot 14-5 in the first half, Trigg County played on much more even terms in the final half.

Trigg County (0-0-1) is back in action Saturday at Calloway County. Hopkins County Central (0-1-1) hosts Fort Campbell Saturday afternoon.
