The Lyon County girls’ soccer team improved to 2-0 on Thursday with a 4-2 victory over visiting Hopkinsville.  The win is the Lady Lyons’ first in the last eight matches in the series dating back to a 5-1 decision in 2007. The teams tied last year and in 2021.

Alice Smith took her season total to six with a pair of goals for the Lady Lyons, who led 3-0 at the halftime break. Chloe Gandee opened the scoring in the 29th minute, and Anna White added a goal with just under four minutes left in the half.

Smith added a goal a minute later for the 3-0 lead.

Hopkinsville rallied in the second half behind a goal and an assist from Kaylin Lynch and a strike from Kaydon Coats, but couldn’t crawl all the way back despite twice striking the post in the final 20 minutes.

White found Smith for her second goal with 30 minutes left for a 4-1 lead.

Goalkeeper Richmond Herring made nine saves to earn the win for the Lady Lyons.

Hopkinsville slipped to 1-1 ahead of a visit from Paducah Tilghman on Saturday.

Lyon County will look to stay perfect when they head to Webster County on Friday.
