I guess if you wanted to describe the first week of the season for the Hopkins County Central boys soccer team it would be a week of almost after they almost got one ‘again’ Saturday afternoon. The Storm and the Fort Campbell Falcons battled through warm conditions and ended up in a 2-2 draw.
The draw wraps up an opening week of the season where the Storm could just as easily be 3-0 as the 0-1-2 where they currently stand.
Hopkins County Central got goals from Cohl Hoard and Mason Gallimore. Hoard scored on a header off a corner kick. Gallimore scored on a penalty kick for the storm.
Dylan McDonald scored both goals for the Falcons, one coming on a penalty kick. McDonald now has three goals on the season. John Arnold came up huge in the net for the Falcons, finishing with 17 saves.
The match was all knotted up 1-1 at the half.
Coach Jody Bridgforth and his team have been right on the verge all week long. The Storm lead Todd Central 3-1 before losing in the final minute 5-4. Central led Trigg County 3-1 before ending up in a 3-3 draw.
Up next for the Storm is a Thursday night trip to the Stadium of Champions where they will take on the Hopkinsville Tigers.
For the Falcons, it has also been a week of ‘almosts.’ Fort Campbell dropped a hard-fought 4-3 match at Hopkinsville in their season opener and followed that up with Saturday’s tie. The Falcons are back at work Tuesday, taking on Caldwell County in the All A Classic.
