Kentucky coach Mark Stoops finally confirmed Saturday what had basically become public knowledge.
Freshman receiver Hardley Gilmore who had turned heads with his play in spring practice and again this month is now going to miss significant playing time with an injury suffered in UK’s first scrimmage a week ago.
No one knew exactly what happened or how long Gilmore would be out and Stoops did not go into detail Saturday about Gilmore’s injury.
“Hardley will be out for a decent bit. It’ll be at least midseason or more (that he will be out),” said Stoops.
Stoops had confirmed previously that running back Chip Trayanum broke his hand in UK’s first scrimmage and will miss at least the season opener against Southern Mississippi and maybe more.
Kentucky held its second scrimmage Saturday and this time apparently there were no game-missing injuries.
“It looks like we came out of this one pretty clean, which was important,” Stoops said Saturday. “I feel good about where we’re at. Last week when I spoke to you I said I thought we got out this scrimmage unscathed.
“And that didn’t really happen. There were a few things that popped up on us after that. Two guys that will have some significant time missed that were important to us. But other than that, just bumps and bruises, few days, some guys that missed a little bit of time this week.”
Michigan transfer D.J. Waller missed the first scrimmage with an injury but apparently participated in this one. Tight end Josh Kattus and defensive lineman Darrion Henry-Young both apparently did not play based on reports from those at Saturday’s scrimmage.
