BYU transfer Jaxson Robinson is expected by many to be Kentucky’s best player for coach Mark Pope this season and he certainly understands how difficult the transition to college basketball can be but he has been impressed by freshman teammate Trent Noah of Harlan County.

“Trent comes in here every day and works before practice and after practice. I see him here working on his game, taking care of his body, treating it like a true professional,” said Robinson.

“I think him being around a lot of older guys is helping him mature super fast. He’s learned the ropes pretty quick and he is gonna be dangerous.”

Robinson started his collegiate career at Texas A&M in 2020-21 and played in 14 games, including four starts. He transferred to Arkansas for his sophomore season and played in 16 games. Robinson spent the next two seasons at BYU under Pope and played in 66 games, including 36 starts. He averaged 11.4 points per game and shot 41 percent from the field, 34.9 percent from 3 and 84 percent at the foul line.

Robinson knows he’s at a different location with Pope now but knows his coach will provide the same type guidance for him.

“Being around the same guys always helps. They’re great coaches. They changed my career,” he said about Pope and assistant Cody Fueger. “Now a guy like Trent will get to benefit from playing with them and see all the ways they can help him.”

  1. Jaxson has a good eye. Noah will be like Perry in surprising anyone who thinks a freshmen can’t compete with the 4th & 5th year seniors. Reed Sheppard surprised a lot of folks as a freshmen & is now ranked pre-season #2 for Rookie of the Year as a pro. And yet, Reed some thought he would be a Junior or Senior before he got much PT.

Watch out for those KY natives and also those who have already has a connection to Pope (Jaxson & Chandler). Gonna make big contributions as well as be a major positive influence on others to be a TEAM player.

  2. I am truly excited for basketball and Pope’s new regime. We need to temper our hopes (although we expect to win it ALL each year) for a year or so as Mark got a late recruiting start. But he can do it. I just know it. Good luck and good health to Mark and our team. GO CATS!

  3. Trent is a baller for sure. The problem Coach Pope has with this team is everyone is good enough to play 20 minutes which would call for 240 minutes in a 200 minute game. I hope all are committed to doing what’s best for the team, regardless of who plays those minutes.

  4. Trent Noah.. is awesome and gonna keep getting better 👍🏻 for he would go in the gym at 5:00 in the morning and do drills and shoot until 7:00 am before school started .. he would go back in at night with his dad or cousin and practice for hours and on the weekend that’s where you would see his truck .. practicing 👍🏻👍🏻 Trent is totally committed and proud to wear his UK jersey … He knows the assignment 👍🏻👍🏻 can’t wait to watch him continue to grow and earn his playing time 💙🏀🙏🏻
