In an early season matchup on Monday between two teams with 2nd Region title aspirations, Madisonville-North Hopkins saw a pair of first-half leads disappear and a late comeback bid fall short in a 5-4 loss to hosts Henderson County.

The Lady Maroons scored the opener and again nudged in front at 2-1, but Henderson County found the back of the net twice ahead of the halftime whistle to take a 3-2 advantage into the break.

Madisonville tied things up with a goal early in the second half before the Lady Colonels again scored twice unanswered to take the lead for good.  The Lady Maroons cut the margin in half with a late goal but couldn’t force the game’s fourth tie.

Madison Hill led the way with a hat trick, taking her season goal total to a team-high six.  Hadley Hodges had the other Madisonville goal, with McKinley Wilson, Kaytee Parish, and Hill notching assists.

Henderson outshot the Lady Maroons 20-13, with Parish making 14 saves.  Madisonville held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Henderson won its second straight to improve to 3-1 and avenge a loss in last season’s match between the teams.  Madisonville slipped to 1-2 ahead of a trip to Hopkinsville on Thursday.
