As Trigg County transitions new players on defense due to injuries and graduation, coach Jason Hite knows there will be some nights when the Lady Wildcats will just have to outscore their opponent.
That was the case on Monday as Leiah Hite had a first half natural hat trick and four total goals to pace Trigg County past Mayfield 7-4 at the Complex.
Maggie Wolfe tallied three assists with a strong game at midfield. Landie Hite found her sister for two assists on the game’s first three goals as Trigg looked to have the game in control early.
However, Mayfield answered with two goals in less than a minute to cut the Trigg lead to 3-2 in the 33rd minute.
Hallie Joiner looped a shot over the goalie five minutes into the second half to up the Lady Wildcat lead to 4-2.
Leiah Hite tallied her fourth goal off a pass from Wolfe in the 51st minute with little sister Hallie adding a goal four minutes later for a 6-2 lead.
Mayfield wouldn’t roll over with two more goals, but Addison Humphries ended the scoring with a goal in the 71st minute.
Trigg County outshot Mayfield 17-11.
The Lady Wildcats are continuing to shuffle people on the back line due to last year’s graduation and injury, but Hite appears to be finding the right rotation.
Monday’s win was Trigg County’s fifth straight over Mayfield (0-3).
The Lady Wildcats (2-2) will host Todd County Central on Thursday.
