The Caldwell County Lady Tiger volleyball team swept three sets at Union County Tuesday night in its season opener.
The Lady Tigers defeated the Bravettes by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-15.
“We started slow and still rusty from the long break since Bluegrass Games,” noted Caldwell head coach Daniel Cortner. “Late in the first set, Rylee Thompson was able to roll off about four points in a row, and that gave us some confidence to finish.
“We looked perfectly balanced on our attacks, and the stat sheets prove it. If we can receive serve like we did in Lexington and tonight, Kylee White and the hitters are going to have a fun season.”
Benashka Thomas recorded 11 kills, two aces and two digs, Brylee Butts had 10 kills, one dig and one ace while Thompson had nine kills, eight digs and an ace for Caldwell.
Med Thomas totaled six kills and two digs. Chevy McGowan had five kills, a block, two digs and one assist. Mycah Riddle had three kills and 18 digs.
Kylee White had 41 assists plus six digs, an ace and one kill.
Morgan Aikins had a kill and seven digs while Anna Giltz had eight digs. Maddie Cooper added one ace.
Caldwell has won six straight matches in the series and leads Union 18-3 all-time.
The Lady Tigers will play at home for the first time on Thursday when they host Mayfield.
