After seeing their run of All A regional titles snapped two years ago in a loss to the Caldwell County Lady Tigers, the University Heights Academy Blazers made it two straight regional championships by eliminating Caldwell County Thursday night. Three different Lady Blazers found the net as UHA blanked the Lady Tigers 5-0 in the All A regional championship match at Fort Campbell.
The win was the third straight shutout for the UHA defense in the All A Classic.
The Lady Blazer defense allowed the Caldwell County attack very few chances to get a good look at the net, limiting the Lady Tigers to just four shots, three in the first half and only one in the second. For the night, UHA outshot Caldwell County 21-4, so the margin could have easily been even bigger for the Lady Blazers.
UHA got on the board at the 15:30 mark when Audrey Perry found the net to give the Lady Blazers the early 1-0 lead.
Skyler Cantrell drilled a shot that hit the crossbar but then came down across the line in the net at 30:30 extending the lead to 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Kendall Hancock beat two Caldwell County defender and the keeper to give University Heights a 3-0 lead going into the half.
Hancock scored again at the 58:00 mark in the second half to run the margin up to 4-0. Skyler Cantrell then sealed the deal with a late game goal to reach the final margin.
The win moves UHA into the upcoming sectional round of the girls’ All A Classic against the winner of the 1st Region.
Up next for University Heights (4-0) is a home match August 31 against the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers.
Caldwell County (2-1) travels to Crittenden County Tuesday night.
