What began as a season of promise for the Trigg County Wildcats in 2023 ended with six straight losses, multiple injuries, and missing the postseason for the first time in six years.

While the player numbers haven’t seen a bump in 2024, head coach Chris Ezell thinks this year’s team will be better.

He also knows by not having a large roster, staying healthy will be a big key this year.

Trigg County allowed 39 points a game and gave up 40 or more in all eight losses. That has obviously been a focal point for the Wildcats this year.

Ahmari Alexander and Brody Calhoun are among the leading tacklers back for the Wildcats. Khade Greenwood and Joshuan Bridges should also play key parts in the defense.

The Wildcats do return Davaree Gude, who was the first Trigg sophomore since Al Baker to rush for over 1,000 yards.

Peyton Williams and Brody Renfroe give the Wildcats some speed on the outside at receiver.

Up front, the Wildcats return Thye White, Quin Baggett, and Connor Long, although Long will miss a few weeks due to an elbow injury suffered in Trigg’s last scrimmage.

Freshman Timmy Williams will take over at quarterback, giving the Wildcats an option both through the air and on the ground.

Trigg County has to stay healthy with just 33 players on its roster. However, Ezell feels the team dynamic is much better this year which should help them get past the adversities that buried them last year.

The Wildcats open at Calloway County, a program that was 2-8 last year and hasn’t made the postseason since 2020.
