
Hopkins County Central scored less than two minutes into its Thursday contest with Hopkinsville, never trailed, and handed the Tigers a 4-2 loss at the Stadium of Champions.
The win by the Storm was their first after two ties and a loss to begin the season.
Riley Dunlap scored 90 seconds into the contest to stake the Storm to a 1-0 lead.
Mason Gallimore followed six minutes later with a goal.
Hopkinsville countered in the 14th minute with Mikel Ramirez’s second goal of the season.
However, Hopkins County Central again went up by two goals in the 25th minute when Dunlap found the back of the net again to double his season goal total to four.
Hopkinsville cut the deficit to 3-2 when Erick Hernandez scored with just over four minutes left before halftime.
Six minutes into the second half, Landan Bennett scored to again put the Storm up by two goals.
Both teams saw their defenses buckle down and keep the other off the scoreboard for the final 34 minutes.
Cohl Hoard had a pair of assists for the Storm, while Will Scott and Chase Lynn each had a helper.
William Clevenger made nine stops in goal for Hopkins County Central.
Hopkins County Central has won two of three against Hopkinsville although the Tigers have won 11 of the last 15 matches in the series.
Hopkins County Central (1-1-2) will host Murray on Tuesday in a Class 2A sectional contest in Mortons Gap.
Hopkinsville (2-3) will entertain Ohio County on Monday at the Stadium of Champions.
