After a frustrating first half on Saturday that saw Madisonville-North Hopkins come up empty on 11 shots on goal against visiting Lyon County, Madison Hill found the back of the net four times over the final 40 minutes to lead the Lady Maroons to a 7-1 rout of the Lady Lyons.
The Lady Maroons have now won all 12 meetings between the programs, and they dominated early proceedings but couldn’t find their way past Lyon goalkeeper Richmond Herring. Shots on goal favored Madisonville 11-2 with the Lady Lyons not forcing a save from Kaytee Parish for the first 18 minutes of the contest, but the teams went into halftime in a scoreless deadlock.
However, the Lady Maroons wasted little time taking control after the break, banging in five goals inside the first 12 minutes of the second half. Hill opened the scoring off an assist from McKinley Wilson after just three and a half minutes, and Kailey Barber doubled the advantage three minutes later on a header off a Hill corner kick.
Anna White almost pulled a goal back for the Lady Lyons just seconds later when she forced a diving save, but it was the Lady Maroons finding the back of the net again with just under 30 minutes left on Hannah Davis’ header from close range off a Barber free kick.
Hill scored twice inside of a minute on a tap-in from a Wilson cross and an unassisted goal on a shot from the top of the box to make it 5-0. Barber added her second goal after Hill got around a Lyon defender on the right side and rolled the ball across the six-yard box for an easy finish.
The Lady Lyons had to wait almost 70 minutes for something to cheer about, but Alice Smith just about made it worth the wait with a long free kick from the right of the box that hit the underside of the crossbar and nestled in the far side-netting to make it 6-1.
Hill finished off her four-goal performance with a strike with 8:39 left for the final score.
Herring made 16 saves for the Lady Lyons, who slipped to 3-2 ahead of a visit from Crittenden County on Monday.
Madisonville outshot Lyon County 23-4. Hill added a pair of assists to her goal tally, Barber finished with two goals and an assist, Davis had a goal and an assist, Hadley Hodges set up a goal, and Wilson took her season total to five with three assists.
The Lady Maroons will be on the road on Monday when they travel to South Warren looking for their third win in a row.
