The Todd County Central Lady Rebels limited the Monroe County Lady Falcons to just one shot in the second half and a total of the six for the day Saturday in their match in Elkton. The problem was that the Lady Falcons found the net with their first two shots of the day and that was enough to carry Monroe County to a 2-0 win.

The win was the first of the 2024 season for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Rebels outshot Monroe County 8 to 5 in the first half and then 7 to 1 in the second half but just could not get the ball to find the back of the net. One especially frustrating trip down the field for Todd County Central saw Haylee Chamberlaine get past a defender and drill a shot toward the right front post. The ball hit the inside of the post, but instead of going into the net, the ball bounced back across the front of the goal.

It was just that kind of day for the Lady Rebels.

Monroe County took the lead at the 18:00 mark when Kendal Bautista scored on the first shot of the match for the Lady Falcons to make it 1-0.

Just over 8 minutes later, the Lady Falcons extended their lead as Aaliyah Macedo beat a defender and got a shot over the outstretched arms of goal Jazmine Russell to move the lead o out to 2-0.

From that point on, the Todd County Central defense did the job of shutting the door of scoring opportunities for the Lady Falcons but the Lady Rebels could not find the way to eat into the lead.

While they did not find the net, Haylee Chamberlaine and Scarlett Lancaster put pressure on the Monroe County defense, giving the Lady Rebels several chances for shots on goal.

The middle defense for Todd County Central was tough all day, but especially in the second half. That effort was anchored by the play of Josira Espinoza and Edna Marquez.

The Lady Rebels drop to 0-3-1 on the season. They are back in action Tuesday when they host Franklin-Simpson.
