After four losses to begin the season against teams with a combined 13 wins, Caldwell County broke into the win column for the first time in 2024 with an 8-0 mercy-rule win over Lyon County Tuesday in Eddyville.

Junior Sutton Ritchey tallied a hat trick for the Tigers, including the final two. His goal with 13 minutes left ended the contest.

Deacon Carter began the scoring for Caldwell County when he took a through pass from Colin Tumero and scored six minutes into the contest.

Freshman Kale Tumero scored the first of his two goals just two minutes later.

Colson Mattocks put Caldwell up 3-0 when he scored off a cross from Justice Andrews with 24:56 left in the half.

After Caldwell had a goal disallowed on an offsides call, Ritchey rebounded a missed Ben Jones shot and redirected into the goal with 14 minutes left.

Chase Lantrip, who had an earlier goal disallowed on the aforementioned offsides call, had one count with 10 minutes left when he took a cross from Ritchey for the 5-0 halftime advantage.

After Tumero opened the second half with a goal, Ritchey ended the match with goals from passes from Landon Lanham and Carter.

The win was Caldwell County’s fifth straight win over Lyon County and 14th in the past 17 meetings. Caldwell leads the all-time series 33-31-3.

Caldwell County (1-4) will play at Henderson County on Thursday, looking for its first win in seven meetings in the series.

Lyon County (0-4) looks to get on the winning track on Thursday when they travel to Hopkinsville to play Heritage Christian Academy for the first time.

The Lyons return home on Friday to host Massac County, Ill.
