Caldwell County’s girls had to rally from a 2-0 deficit to give head coach Daniel Cortner his 200th coaching victory.
After dropping the first two sets to Muhlenberg County Thursday night at the CAB gym in Princeton, the Lady Tigers battled all the way back to claim a 3-2 victory.
The first four sets were all tight before Caldwell captured a 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-8 victory.
Cortner, who is in his 10th season as Lady Tiger head coach, is 200-118.
Brylee Butts had 17 kills, six blocks and three digs to help spearhead Caldwell’s comeback against the Lady Mustangs.
Rylee Thompson had 11 kills, a block, 12 digs and three aces while Benashka Thomas had 10 kills and two digs.
Kylee White recorded 44 assists and four digs. Mycah Riddle had a team-high 20 digs and led the team with six aces.
Chevy McGowan finished with seven kills, a block and three digs. Morgan Aikins and Anna Giltz each had 13 digs.
Med Thomas had a kill and two blocks. Maddie Cooper had two digs and two aces. Tink Clark recorded two digs.
Muhlenberg (3-6) gained the momentum in the first set when it overcame a 15-11 deficit to go up 1-0.
The Lady Mustangs made a late charge in the third set to try to wrap up the victory, but Caldwell held on to late leads in both the third and fourth sets to tie the match.
The Lady Tigers then ran out to a 6-2 lead in the fifth set and rode that momentum to finish off the match.
Caldwell is now 4-1 all-time against the Lady Mustangs.
Interestingly, Muhlenberg was also the Caldwell opponent six years ago when Cortner picked up his 100th win as head coach.
The Lady Tigers, now 6-4 this season, will next visit Fort Campbell on Tuesday.
