Christian County split its games at Saturday’s Boots and Butts Classic – an all-day annual affair at the Stadium of Champions.
The Colonels dropped their opener to Franklin County 4-1 before finishing the day with a 2-0 shutout of Danville.
“We were a lot softer in that first game than we should have been,” head coach Avery Seeger said. “I don’t know if it was because we played early in the morning or what the problem was. We were much more ready and confident for the second game.”
The Colonels are 6-2 – their best eight-game start since 2008. Their past five wins have come by shutout.
“I’m seeing improvement and we are getting better every game. We are making the adjustments we need to make and I’m just trying to keep them focused on their mentality,” Seeger said. “We are putting 100% in no matter what the situation is, no matter what we’re facing, who we’re facing, and what problems we have.”
Christian County will play at Ohio County (3-3) on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s district showdown at University Heights Academy.
The Colonels’ only win over Ohio County in their past six matchups came in 2008. The Eagles won 4-0 last year.
Christian County has had Thursday’s date circled on the calendar since last year’s district championship, won by UHA on penalty kicks. UHA has won 12 straight games in the series dating back to 2016.

The Colonels closed out play at the Boots and Butts Classic with a 2-0 shutout of the Admirals, who had shut out Hopkinsville earlier in the day.
Alex Hale assisted on a pair of goals by Christian Lopez – the second coming off a second half corner kick and providing some much-needed insurance.
The goals by Lopez give him a team-best five for the season while Hale’s helpers were his seventh – also a team-best.
