Two nights after roaring past Caldwell County at the Stadium of Champions, the Hopkinsville Tigers were invaded by Webster County Thursday night — with the Trojans pulling away for a 5-0 victory.
Tigers skipper Aaron Hutchison noted that 10 peppered shots didn’t prove to be enough offense, while freshman keeper Landon Beaulieu continued to gain significant experience, and came away with a season-best 12 saves.
Sophomore Brian Alfaro picked up the brace for Webster County, now 5-4-1 after 10 contests, while juniors Manuel Salinas, Camden Melton and James Higdon rounded out the scoring. Alfaro, Sophomore Andres Juan and senior Carlos Andres were all credited with an assist, while junior keeper Harrison Warren preserved the shutout with six saves.
With the defeat, the Tigers fell to 3-8 on the year, with plenty of time remaining for growth and prosperity.
NEXT UP: The Tigers have a doubleheader slated for this Saturday at Greenwood, where they will face the Gators (5-5, Fourth Region, 14th District) at 9 AM, and Apollo (4-4, Third Region, Ninth District) at 3:40 PM.
Winners of five straight after beating Franklin-Simpson 7-5 on the road Thursday night, Greenwood’s Pleh Reh and Michael Mitchell had combined for 10 goals and six assists before facing the Wildcats, while Coach Eric Bowers has been looking at two goalies in Lennox Alexander (40 saves) and Evan Neel (31 saves, two shutouts).
The Eagles, meanwhile, fell to Owensboro Thursday night 6-0 at Shifley Park, after losing to Owensboro 8-0 on August 15.
Prior to this second matchup against Owensboro, Coach Nikos Agisilaou’s crew was led by Valor Smith with seven goals and two assists, while they, too, run a pair of goalies in Htee Eh (22 saves, five games) and Luke Mattingly (18 saves, three shutouts).
Hopkinsville comes back home for a 7 PM faceoff Monday against Todd County Central — who tied Caldwell County 2-2 Thursday night and is now 6-1-1 — their only loss a 5-2 defeat at home against Franklin-Simpson.
