The University Heights Academy girls’ golf team had to overcome an unrelenting golf course and emotions to finish in fifth place at the All A Classic State Golf Tournament on Sunday.

The four Lady Blazers took to the Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond less than 24 hours after learning of the unexpected death of classmate Hensley Hunt.

In addition to the visible emotions, the players had to overcome the narrow fairways and inconsistent green speeds while playing at a snail’s pace. UHA’s groups played their rounds in six hours and 20 minutes.

Conlee Lindsey had nine pars and two birdies to finish with a round of 80 and finish in eighth place. It was the senior’s second straight top-10 finish in the event.

Her sister Campbell Lindsey shot a round of 99 to finish tied for 27th place. She had four pars in her round.

Allie Sandifer shot a 116 to finish tied for 49th place and Caroline Tucker came in with a 122 to tie for 60th place.

As a team, UHA finished in fifth place, seven shots behind fourth-place Collegiate and 10 shots behind third-place Owensboro Catholic.

Lexington Christian edged Owen County by two shots to win its eighth straight All A state title.
