The Hopkinsville girls’ soccer team used a dominant second half to push past Logan County 5-1 before closing out play on Saturday at the Christian County Lady Colonel Showcase with a 1-1 draw with Ohio County.
Kaydon Coats got the Lady Tigers started with a goal with 11 minutes left in the first half, but Logan County answered just two minutes later with a goal from Kenzie Frcka, assisted by Lilaina Veigel.
Grace Cansler broke a 1-1 tie just 30 seconds into the second half with a shot from outside the 18-yard box that dropped in over Logan County goalkeeper Kyla Bilyeu.
The Lady Tigers kept the Lady Cougars pinned in their own end and the constant pressure paid off with a goal by Kaylyn Lynch off an assist from Cansler. Lynch netted a penalty kick after a Lady Cougar handball for a 4-1 lead with just over 13 minutes left.
Logan County came up empty on a penalty kick opportunity with seven minutes to play before Rebecca Wood rounded out the scoring with a goal on a pass from Lynch. Jaleigha McFarland made three saves in goal to secure the victory.
Goals were scarce in the nightcap, with Coats’ strike off an assist from Emma DeArmond canceling out a goal for Ohio County in a 1-1 draw.
McFarland made six saves to keep the Lady Eagles at bay and help Hopkinsville improve to 6-5-1 ahead of a visit from Calloway County on Monday.
