The Trigg County cross country team brought home a fourth place finish at Saturday’s Calloway County Invitational in Murray.
The Wildcats sent eight runners to the starting line with six of them establishing new personal best times.
David Cavanaugh was part of a second group behind the race leaders and finished in fifth place with a time of 18:18 over the 3.1-mile course. He finished 1:04 behind the race winner Cole Glover of University Heights Academy.
Brody Renfroe, who kicked five extra points and played on both sides of the football in Friday night’s Trigg win over Fort Campbell, finished in 25th place in a new personal best time of 19:24.
Freshman Dekon Perry continues to trim seconds off his time, running 19:29 to finish in 27th place. His time knocked 90 seconds off his time from two weeks ago and was a new personal best.
Braxton Hargrove finished in 29th place in a personal best time of 19:34 with Travis Cavanaugh 45th in 20:29, Grant Gallogly 55th in a personal best time of 21:26, Kale Noel in 99th place in a personal best of 23:39, and Carter Shepherd in 110th place in 24:39, also a personal best.
Trigg County’s team total of 121 saw them finish tied with Paducah Tilghman. However, Trigg claimed fourth place due to Gallogly’s finish as the 6th place runner, which is used to break ties in cross country.
Marshall County won with 72 points with Webster County (100) second and Fort Campbell (110) third.
Allayah Hargrove was Trigg’s lone girls’ runner in the varsity race, finishing the course in 31:17 for 43rd place.
