The Trigg County girls’ soccer team won for the fifth time in its last six outings and earned its third shutout on Monday with a 5-0 victory over visiting Graves County.

The Lady Wildcats led 3-0 at the break and barely allowed the Lady Eagles a sight of goal in the second half, improving to 8-4.

Graves County appeared poised to take the lead in the 8th minute after a Trigg County handball in the box, but Krystina Kelly’s penalty kick sailed wide.

The Lady Wildcat offense took over from there, beginning with a goal from Leiah Hite off a pinpoint cross from Julie Dalen with just under 30 minutes left in the half.

Dalen got on the scoresheet just five minutes later when she outmuscled a Graves defender and scored from close range to double the advantage.

After Maggie Wolfe saw her header miss just wide, Hite added her second of the night on a rip from just outside the right side of the box for a three-goal halftime cushion.

After the break, Landie Hite cleaned up at the back post after Leiah Hite’s shot was saved in the 46th minute.  The Lady Wildcats controlled the game the rest of the way, allowing Graves County only two shots on frame.

Landie Hite completed her brace with 17th minutes left to round out the scoring, finishing off a cross from Lillie Richardson to make it 5-0.

Caroline Kosak made four saves to preserve the win for the Lady Wildcats.

Trigg County will be back in action on Thursday with a district matchup with Crittenden County.
