Saturday was the annual Owensboro Air Show but it was the Todd County Central Rebels that left the city flying high after a 3-2 win over Owensboro Catholic.

Charlie Campbell’s header off a perfectly placed cross from Tanner Henderson with 5:16 left gave the Rebels a second straight All A Sectional win and a berth in the All A State Tournament.

Campbell’s goal completed a comeback that saw the Rebels trail the Aces 2-1 with 27 minutes left.

John Ross Cardwell answered 30 seconds later when he punched home a rebound off a Chris Salazar direct kick in front of the net.

It came in the second half when the Rebels did a better job of controlling the midfield and possession.

“We are a second half team,” Campbell said. “With Tanner’s speed, he can do anything on the wing and you just have to be ready on the back post. We work on that drill every day in practice.”

For sophomore Tyler Baker, he said the second half mentality begins at halftime.

“I don’t know what it is but when we have one of those corner talks (at halftime) we just get intense and wake up,” he said. “We just played with more intensity and more physicality.”

Henderson used a breakaway and muscled home his 20th goal of the season to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the contest.

Owensboro Catholic tied the match in the 18th minute when Joseph Kurtz scored in front off a cross.

The Aces (3-8-1) took the lead when Owen Gray scored off an assist from J.W. Kurtz in the 53rd minute.

But Todd was able to punctuate the comeback to get its sixth straight win and improve to 11-1-1. The win was another one for the Rebels that was facilitated in the second half.

For Todd County Central, they will be making its second straight appearance at the All A Classic State Tournament. The Rebels will play 13th Region champion Oneida Baptist on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 Eastern Time at Collegiate’s home field in Louisville.
