Hopkins County Central’s girls scored two goals in the first 5 minutes and went on to post a 4-1 victory over Caldwell County in 7th District soccer action Monday night at Butler Stadium in Princeton.
Emma Vandiver and Elissa Adams had the early tallies as the Lady Storm won for the fourth-straight outing.
Vandiver had an unassisted goal in the 2nd minute, while Adams got help from Mary Starks in the 5th minute to give the visitors a quick 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Tigers made things interesting early in the second half when Addie Middleton scored on a rebound to cut the gap to 2-1. That came in the 44th minute and seemed to put the momentum on Caldwell’s side, at least for the time being.
However, the Lady Storm countered with goals in the 55th and 64th minutes to put the game away.
Lilly Armour put home a shot from in front of the net to make it 3-1, then Jaci Childress added another score to extend the margin to 4-1 and essentially put the match away.
Hopkins Central held a 20-13 advantage in shots in the contest, including 14-3 in the first half.
Savannah Barnett had eight saves for the Lady Storm while Abbey Gill recorded 10 stops for the Lady Tigers.
Hopkins Central is 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the district. Caldwell is 4-5 and 0-2.
The game was a preview of the semifinal matchup next month in the district tournament in Madisonville. The Lady Tigers and Lady Storm will hook up again to see which team advances to the 7th District final.
The Lady Storm has now won the last three matchups between the two teams. However, the Lady Tigers own a 32-9 lead all-time.
Caldwell plays at home again on Tuesday against Union County.
Hopkins Central will go to Crittenden County on Tuesday.
