Caldwell Avenges District Setback by Sweeping Madisonville

Caldwell County avenged an earlier loss to Madisonville-North Hopkins and kept its hopes alive for the No. 1 seed for the 7th District tournament by sweeping three sets Tuesday night in Princeton.

Caldwell improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in district play with a 25-19, 25-15, 25-12 triumph.

Brylee Butts had 12 kills, a block and two digs in the victory while Rylee Thompson had nine kills, 13 digs and three aces. Kylee White added 34 assists, two kills, a block and four aces.

Benashka Thomas recorded six kills and three digs. Chevy McGowan had five kills and three digs. Mycah Riddle had 12 digs and two aces.

Grace Watson and Medeline Thomas each tallied two kills. Morgan Aikins had five digs, two assists and three aces. Anna Giltz had four digs and Maddie Cooper had one ace and one dig.

For Madisonville (3-12, 1-1), Mackenzie Stoltz had five kills and 12 digs while Morgan Buntin had five kills and Sydney Skeen had three kills, four digs and an ace.

Leah Moody recorded 10 assists, a kill, an ace and a dig. Sadie Kirk had a kill and three digs. Myla Hughes had one kill.

Katie Beth Sutton had five digs while Keira Williams had two assists and a dig. Avery Rudd and Mashyla McAdoo each had one dig.

The Lady Tigers now lead the all-time series 42-12.

Caldwell, which fell in five sets at Madisonville 12 days earlier, has just one district match remaining — against Hopkins County Central Thursday night in Princeton.

Madisonville still has two meetings remaining with Hopkins Central before the district seedings are settled.
