Kentucky volleyball has three losses this season and all are to teams — Nebraska, Penn State and Purdue — ranked in the top seven nationally at the time UK played them.

Kentucky lost 3-1 to Nebraska and Purdue and fell 3-2 to Penn State after taking the Cats had a 2-0 lead.

Now UK has a chance for its first win over a ranked team this season when it hosts No. 4 Louisville Wednesday night at 7 on ESPN.

“We always want to play good team and this year is no different,” Kentucky coach Craig Skinner said. “We are finishing the pre-conference with Louisville and Stanford, who are as good as anybody. That is why players come to Kentucky (to play elite competition).

The Cardinals are coming off a five-set win over top 10 Creighton and Skinner likes having the national spotlight on this matchup.

“I have no doubt that our fans will pack it (Memorial Coliseum) for this match.Obviously it’s a great rivalry,” Skinner said.

He said it might be the first time for some fans to see all the renovations, including air conditioning, that have been done at Memorial Coliseum.

“National TV, you know, it’s going to be awesome,” Skinner said. “Can’t wait. Always, always a high intensity, good match for both the players and fans.”

  1. I would like to thank Larry V for keeping us update on UK women’s volleyball. I don’t think it’s getting enough attention as it should be getting in what Skinner has done to this program. A top notch program year in and year out, has posted a national title and always in contention for getting that 2nd title. I’ll be watching tomorrow night. Go Cats!!

    1. Thank you Cats79. I love volleyball. Coaching staff and players are all great to work with and be around. Big match on Wednesday
