
Caldwell County made a big comeback to get to overtime, but Hopkins County Central got the golden goal to claim the 7th District match 5-4 Tuesday night in Mortons Gap.
Will Scott had a hat trick and also picked up an assist for the Storm, who improved to 4-4-2 overall and 1-1 in district play.
Landan Bennett had two goals and an assist for Hopkins Central, which also got one assist each from Jude Mitchell, Mason Gallimore and Talon Stephens.
The Storm appeared to be in great shape when it built a 4-1 advantage by halftime.
But Caldwell (2-7-2, 0-2) mounted a rally behind Collin Turmero, who had two goals and an assist in the contest.
Chase Lantrip also had a goal for the Tigers, who got assists from Ben Jones and Kale Turmero.
Caldwell’s other tally was an own goal after a crossing pass by Collin Turmero was deflected into the net by a defender.
William Clevenger made 11 saves for Hopkins Central while Grayson Harris also recorded 11 stops for Caldwell.
The two teams will square off again in the district tournament next month.
Hopkins Central is next scheduled to play twice on Saturday in the Russellville Panther Classic, facing both the host school and Louisville Shawnee.
Caldwell will visit Paducah Tilghman next Tuesday.
