Remember Georgia coach Kirby Smart warning before his then No. 1 Bulldogs played Kentucky that he knew UK would respond because it felt “disrespected” after being blown out 31-6 by South Carolina.
He was right and Georgia was lucky to escape with a 13-12 win last week. Now Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is getting more pregame love from Ohio coach Tim Albin going into Saturday afternoon’s game at Kroger Field.
“Kentucky’s got a solid team. I know they’re disappointed with the South Carolina game. Listening to coach Stoops, he’s a guy I like to listen to on things. He’s a straight shooter,” Albin said Monday.
“He speaks the truth on this team and they certainly responded against Georgia coming off South Carolina. You can see it on film. I respect that as a fellow coach.”
Albin coached with Frank Solich and Nebraska and Ohio. He sees Stoops as a program builder and does not understand the backlash directed at Stoops after losses to South Carolina and Georgia.
“They’re lucky to have him. He’s a pillar there,” Albin said. “There should be a statue outside the stadium is how I see it.”

Tim Albin has been smoking Jet Fuel OG.
If anyone deserves a statue its Vince Marrow without him Stoops would be a defensive coordinator somewhere. Without the big dog we would have joker Phillips like recruits. I honestly think the big dog would be a better coach than Stoops.
How about we AT LEAST win a SEC championship before we start mixing the concrete.
Exactly
Great answer.
I thought that was a statue standing there in the sideline giving an automated instruction to punt the ball to insure UGA would not let UK get a chance to score.
I agree Marrow has been the anchor to raising the level of recruits, but believe silt is the combination of Marrow AND Stoops who are responsible for the improved recruiting. Maybe it’s a 60/40 split for credit with Marrow at 60 or it’s 50/50, but Stoops & Marrow have been a recruiting tandem.
Marrow should never be the HC, especially at ANY SEC school. He proved his incompetence as OC when the “complex scheme” OC was fired before the 2022 Bowl game and did one of the worst offensive jobs since chjoker was on the sideline.
Marrow did not have the guts, brains or integrity to replace the absolutely pathetic QB after the 1st half of that bowl game. I don’t know if he just did not want to put in a white QB or if he was just dumb, but either way he really surprised me with his pathetic decision not to replace him at the half, if not before the half. Until that game, I thought he may have some potential as an OC, but he proved me wrong. UK got CRUSHED in that game!
I really like the “don’t start mixing the concrete” comment 👍
I heartedly endorse Albin’s statement once Stoops announces his departure.
As a country we like putting up statues of losers. Robert E. Lee. Stonewall Jackson. Nathan Bedford Forrest.
I believe a Stoops statue would be for mediocrity.
Sometimes you need to careful what you wish for. God knows I have misgivings at times but you would have to write a mega stupid contract to lure a big name replacement or make the right guess on an up & comer.
One things a given – Big Dog is an extremely valuable asset.
Participation Trophy – it meets the new standards set by the wokes
I’m not necessarily a Mark Stoops promoter but you have to ask the question: " If not Stoops, then who"? I used to tell the guys that worked for me, " if you are going to file a complaint, then you have better have a solution in mind and be ready to be the implementer".
Its easy to whine about the losses and questionable coaching, and I do my share, but I wouldn’t have the first clue as to what coaches are available and are they any better than Stoops&Co.
