
The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers will be the top seed when the 8th District soccer tournament gets underway. The Lady Blazers locked up the top spot with a 9-1 home win over the Christian County Lady Colonels Thursday night.
The Lady Blazers scored a goal in the first minute of the match and rolled on from there.
With the UHA win, it means these same two teams will meet in the semifinals of the 8th District tournament as the loss locked the Lady Colonels into the fourth seed.
Thursday night’s win was also the 14th straight win for the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers against 8th District soccer competition.
UHA got on the board with the rebound of a missed shot from Kendall Hancock to make it 1-0 just a minute into the match. Cecilia Langhi found the net at 12:36 to push the lead out to 2-0.
Over the rest of the half, the Lady Blazers got goals from Kendall Hancock, Audrey Perry, and Skylar Cantrell. Christian County avoided beind shutout in the half when Carlie Hobson scored off an assist from Jayleigh Campbell to make it 5-1 at the half.
The Lady Blazers came out of the break and quickly scored four goals to end the match due to the 8-goal rule.
For the night, Kendall Hancock had a three-goal effort. She also added an assist.
Gracie Ausenbaugh had two goals. Audrey Perry finished her night with a goal and three assists, giving her 12 assists for the season.
Skylar Cantrell, Cecilia Langhi, and Presley Bruce had one goal each for the Lady Blazers.
UHA (10-2-0) heads off to Louisville to play Lexington Sayre Saturday morning in the quarterfinals of the All A Classic state tournament.
Christian County (1-12-1) is off for a week before hosting the Russellville Lady Panthers.
