Davaree Gude was up to his old tricks again for Trigg County on Friday night.
The junior running back ran for 228 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 37-21 win over Webster County at Perdue Field.
Gude, who set the single-game school rushing record two weeks ago with 342 yards against Fort Campbell, only needed 10 carries to get this bounty. If touchdown runs of 80 and 60 yards hadn’t been called back on holding penalties, Gude would have had a new record.
While the Wildcats rolled up 437 yards and never trailed in the contest, the win was far from error-free.
The Wildcats had three first-half turnovers, leading to one touchdown and two special teams mistakes in the second half, which led to nine Webster points.
Trigg County was also penalized 17 times for 177 yards including four for unsportsmanlike conduct.
That may have resulted in a loss for the Wildcats in the past, but Trigg’s defensive effort canceled out most of the mistakes.
Webster County, who ran for 404 yards and five touchdowns in last week’s loss to Ballard Memorial, was held to 134 yards on 46 carries.
Trigg’s defense also came up with four sacks of Trojans quarterback Zander Snyder.
Gude’s first two touchdowns came on runs of 44 and 58 yards and staked the Wildcats to a 13-0 lead.
The Trojans took to the air to tie the game in the second quarter as Snyder threw scoring strikes of 5 and 14 yards to Derek Snyder.
Deonatae Edison set up Gude’s third touchdown with a kickoff return to the Webster 17-yard line. Gude toted the ball in on the next play for a 19-13 lead with 2:05 left in the half.
Webster County was forced to punt the ball back to Trigg following a 3-and-out series that included a sack and two incomplete passes.
Caden Scott hit Peyton Williams on a slant and Williams took it 79 yards for a score and a 25-13 Trigg lead at halftime.
A mishandled ball on a low punt snap led to a tackle in the end zone and a Trojan safety in the third quarter.
Gude’s fourth touchdown came on a 69-yard touchdown run inside the final minute of the third quarter.
Josiah Mills had a 1-yard run for Webster County with 8:18 left and Trigg freshman Jasiah McCarley added a 1-yard TD run with 2:26 left to close out the scoring.
Joshuan Bridges totaled 66 yards on 12 carries for the Wildcats, who ran for 304 yards on 28 carries.
Scott was 7-of-12 passing for a career-high 123 yards. Peyton Williams also got a career-high, hauling in five catches for 105 yards.
Zander Snyder was 5-of-13 through the air for the Trojans for 77 yards – all in the first half.
Eight Trojans carried the football with Tyler Kautzman running for 44 yards on five carries.
Trigg County, who saw an 11-game winning streak over Webster snapped last year in Dixon, improved to 23-5 all-time against the Trojans, including 11-2 in Cadiz.
Trigg County, Union County, and Hancock County all sit at 1-0 in the district. The Wildcats will travel to Hancock County next Friday. The Hornets used a late touchdown to remain unbeaten with a 27-24 come-from-behind win over Tell City, Indiana.
