Wade Foster picked the perfect time to turn in a career-low score.
The Hopkinsville High School senior shot an even-par 72 to finish in third place at the Region 2 Golf Tournament in Owensboro. The tourney was suspended on Monday after a pair of two-hour delays. Foster had just made the turn when the horn sounded at 6:30 to stop play.
Foster returned on Tuesday to complete his round and finished two shots behind the winner, Jax Malone of Owensboro. He shot an even-par 36 on each side of the course.
Foster was one of ten golfers who qualified for next week’s state first round at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club. It’s the second straight season a Hopkinsville golfer finished in the top five at region. Andrew Riggs finished in fourth place last year.
His round helped the Tigers finish in ninth place as a team with 347 points. Isaiah Wood shot a round of 87 to finish tied for 45th place.
Henry Riggs finished in 59th place with a round of 91. Ryan Martin carded a 97 to finish in 72nd place and Matt Baker was 81st with a 104.
Owensboro won the team title with a score of 300 – 22 shots better than second place Daviess County.
