Hancock County broke open a close game with 42 unanswered points to defeat Trigg County 64-19 on Saturday night near Hawesville.

The game was postponed a day due to gusty winds and rainy weather that impacted western Kentucky on Friday, although several games were still played.

Saturday’s game was played in steady rain with little to no wind on the new turf of Hancock County’s GN Excavating Stadium.

Hancock quarterback Dylan Morris put on a show for the home crowd with a school record 398 passing yards. He threw for five touchdowns and added a sixth on the ground.

It was reminiscent of Trigg’s last trip to Hancock County in 1999 when Travis Atwell, who would be named Mr. Football, accounted for eight touchdowns – five passing and three rushing – in a 62-19 Hancock win.

Trigg County struck first on Friday as Davaree Gude opened the scoring with a 65-yard run midway through the first quarter.

Hancock County answered with a pair of touchdowns – a Chris Gillispie 2-yard run and a 15-yard pass from Dylan Morris to his cousin Jaxson Morris.

Peyton Williams hauled in a pair of scores from 66 and 30 yards as part of a 5-catch, 113-yard night. His second score got Trigg to within 22-19 with 6:33 left in the half.

It would be the last time Trigg saw the end zone.

After failing to convert on its first two drives, Hancock County scored on nine of its next 10 drives with halftime being the only thing to stop the Hornet offense.

Morris completed 21 of 27 passes as part of his school record night. Cooper Jones had eight catches for 123 yards including a 52-yard TD catch with five seconds left in the first quarter.

Jaxson Morris had four catches for 137 yards and a pair of scores for Hancock County, who finished with 475 yards of offense.

Gude finished with 77 yards on 15 carries but was bottled up at the line for most of the night by the Hancock defense, which limited him to 12 yards on the 14 carries aside from his long scoring run.

The 64 points allowed by the Trigg defense was a season-high and the most allowed since a 64-42 loss to Webster County last year. For Hancock, it was their highest-scoring output since a 68-0 win over Webster County in 2017.

Hancock County improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in district play. They will host Webster County next week.

Trigg County falls to 3-3 and 1-1 in the district. The Wildcats will play at Union County next week ahead of a bye week.
