Sometimes it takes a snowman to make things right.

While no golfer wants to see an ‘8’ on their scorecard, that’s what it took to get Conlee Lindsey’s attention at the KHSAA State First Round on Tuesday in Hopkinsville.

The University Heights Academy senior shot a 1-under par over her final six holes to finish with a 7-over par 78 and finish tied for 5th place. She will now advance to the state championship next week in Bowling Green.

Lindsey had a solid start to her day at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club – her home course – with five straight pars and seven pars through eight holes.

She went out with a 38 but like last week’s region tourney, she struggled at the turn with a double bogey on nine and a bogey on 10.

The snowman came on the 12th hole but Lindsey hunkered down and answered with straight drives off the tee box and carded five pars and a birdie on the par-3 17th hole to finish with a 40 on the back nine.

Lindsey’s score was two shots off the day’s leaders – Daviess County’s Claire Reynolds, Cumberland County’s Kenzie Wilson, and Ballard Memorial’s Madison Glisson – who all shot a 5-over par 76.

She will make her fourth and final appearance in the championship round, to be played Oct. 11-12 at the Bowling Green Country Club.
