Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson didn’t get a lot of attention after UK’s 20-17 win at No. 6 Ole Miss even though he had seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one quarterback pressure on the 47 plays that Ole Miss had.
However, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin certainly noticed and appreciated what the Georgia transfer, who has 20 tackles and three tackles for loss this season, did.
“I think that was a really, really good defense that’s going to give a lot of people problems. Look what they did to Georgia,” Kiffin said about Kentucky’s defense on Monday. “Look how Georgia couldn’t run the ball for the most part and then look at what Georgia just did to Alabama yardage wise and scoring.”
After the game the Ole Miss coach said Dumas-Johnson “made a total difference” for the Kentucky defense with his mentality and said even more at his press conference Monday.
“Ultra sound, keep the ball in front of you. Really big bodies. (Mark) Stoops built that defense that way. I think the addition of the Georgia linebacker was huge for them from a mentality and leadership standpoint,” Kiffin said. “Saw what they did to us, saw what they did to Georgia.
Defensive coordinator Brad White has praised Dumas-Johnson for his vocal leadership, especially when it comes to helping get the defense set against fast paced offenses like the one Ole Miss has and UK will face later against Tennessee.

I think we have the best defense in college football. The South Carolina game was a fluke. If you remember correctly we had a ton of penalties on 3rd downs and a ton of self inflicted wounds. I just don’t think we were ready for that game. Brock had only started for 2 quarters and then jumps into a sec game. As you can tell he has gotten better every game. Our line is playing a little better. If they would improve you will see the real Kentucky wildcats. I think were a 4-6 place SEC team.
Georgia Alabama and Texas are better than us but we can play with anyone. We can also beat any of these teams just watch the Georgia game again.
