Rebecca Wood’s second half penalty kick turned out to be the game winner for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers Thursday night as they turned back the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats 3-2 at the Stadium of Champions. The match was the final one of the regular season for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers got out to an early 2-0 lead, thanks in large part to the play of junior Kaylyn Lynch. Lynch scored at the 7:00 on a shot from the left side that beat the keeper to the right as Hopkinsville took a 1-0 lead.

Just under six minutes later, at 12:40 Lynch struck again. Coming in from the left, Lynch took a shot that deflected off the right post and found its way into the goal to push the lead out to 2-0.

The Lady Wildcats would claw their way back into the match, scoring two unanswered goals, tying the match at 2-2 and setting the stage for Wood’s big one-on-one moment against the Franklin-Simpson goalie.

Jaleigha McFarland had another solid evening in goal for the Lady Tigers with 11 saves.

Hopkinsville finishes the season at 12-8-1. The Lady Tigers open 8th District tournament play Monday evening when they take on the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons at Givens Field at University Heights Academy.
